Community Ministries 40th Anniversary Celebration

The Community Ministries program of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the beginnings of The Stewpot with a day-long program highlighting the past, present, and future of this multifaceted community resource.  Presentations will feature: the Children, Youth, College Scholars and Family Programs; the Dallas Street Choir and the 27th Annual Stewpot Talent Show; Stewpot Art Sidewalk Sale of the Open Art Program; Encore Park Community Garden Open House; Encore Park Sculpture Wall landmark guided tours; Stewpot Signature Chili and Cornbread shared on “One World-Family City Block-Long Table”; “First Light” of historic 508 Park exterior Sconce Lights; Dallas Winds “First Light Chili Serenade”; First Presbyterian Chancel Choir Gospel Spirituals; and music by Lucky Pierres in a Salute to 508 Park’s great producer Don Law

10 a.m. to 12 noon:   Encore Park Amphitheater

Children, Youth, College Scholars, and Family Program Celebrations.

“First Seeds Planted”-recognition of the visionary work of the Presbyterian Women’s adoption of City Park Elementary and their support of the school’s teachers.

Highlights and participant stories of building futures through community: Saturday School Kid’s Club, Summer Day Camp, Summer Visiting Youth Program; Junior Crew, Venturing Crew, Community Ministries College Scholars, Family Stabilization Program, ESL Classes.

Noon to 2 p.m.:          Community Garden and Sculpture Wall

Encore Park Community Garden Open House.

Sculpture Wall guided walk-“Walk the Wall” buttons and t-shirts

2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.:   Amphitheater

Dallas Street Choir performance

27th annual Stewpot Talent Contest ($1,500 cash prizes), entries in six categories (each category award 1st, 2nd and 3rd cash prize).  Art, Poetry, Performance, Essay, Costume and “On the Spot” Sculpture Creations.

 5:00 p.m. to 6 p.m.:   Park Avenue center lane

Celebration of the 8 million meal feast of community compassion:

Stewpot Meal Services Signature Chili and Cornbread free one-bowl meal served and shared on the one world-one family city block long table.

First Light Ceremony of 508 Park Sconce Lights and the music of Dallas Winds.

Evening:           Celebration of sounds past and sights to come
